In A Minute

What is In A Minute?

In A Minute is a constantly evolving work choreographed by Tess Saoirse Liddy

"In A Minute" is a piece originally choreographed during the aMaSSiT program through The Dance Complex and Monkeyhouse - performed by Tess Saoirse Liddy, Kaylee Mahan, and Lila Klaus. It was reworked as a small piece for OnStage 360 in 2022 - performed by Tess Saoirse Liddy, Kaylee Mahan, Gwen McGovern and Seychelle Kulik. It later evolved into a piece performed in TSDC's first season show by 7 company members.

In 2024, it was reworked as a part of a collaborative show between Collective Moments Dance Company and Tess Saoirse Dance Company. Each company put up half an evening's work (30-45 minutes) about mental health/disabilities/neurodiversity related issues. Both companies have been putting together individual pieces related to these ideas for the better part of 2 years. For both companies, these individual pieces should be intertwined with one another to create a larger piece that reflects a grander message. The goal of this show was to provide the first draft into those longer works. Let's Talk About It was renewed by the Dance Complex in 2025 as apart of it's DIY Series.

While Collective Moments Dance Company's half-show length piece is entitled "side-punch", Tess Saoirse Dance Company's half-show length piece is entitled "In A Minute" and this page displays the creators involved in bringing it to life.

We thank the Dance Complex, Monkeyhouse, OnStage Dance Company, the POP Series through Arts at the Armory, and the DIY Series through the Dance Complex for the opportunities they have presented that led to this work evolving. Stay tuned for the Summer 2025 rework at the Providence FRINGE Festival.

How did the piece come to life?
The aMaSSiT program through The Dance Complex and Monkeyhouse, provided choreographer Tess Saoirse Liddy the first opportunity to choreograph since graduating college in 2020, in the midst of the global pandemic. With two co-participants in aMaSSiT, Tess danced in the first rendition of In A Minute at Complex @ Canal in the spring of 2022. Tess has gone on to both restage and dance In A Minute across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and New Jersey for the past 3 years. In the summer of 2023, Tess and Kaylee Mahan brainstormed ideas for a new show - focusing around topics they were passionate about. It is through that discussion that Let's Talk About It was born: a show dedicated to addressing themes of mental health, neurodiversity, negative self-talk, and suicide. In A Minute continues to evolve as both a part of the LTAI series and as an independent piece, as does the mind it is based around.
